Princess Peach: Showtime and Mario vs. DK have already sold over a million
Both games join Nintendo’s long list of million-selling first party games
Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Princess Peach: Showtime have both sold over 1 million units, according to Nintendo.
According to the company’s financial results published on Tuesday, both first-party titles have sold over 1 million units despite only being on the market for a short period.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong was released for Switch in February, followed by Princess Peach: Showtime in March. Nintendo‘s sales figures cover until March 31.
Princess Peach: Showtime was the first game directed by Goemon designer Etsunobu Ebisu in over 25 years.
In VGC’s Princess Peach Showtime review, we wrote: “In truth, little here will provide meaningful challenge for experienced players, and there’s also little expectation that Showtime will win any awards for its innovation.
“However, I found it impossible not to be charmed by Princess Peach’s package—the transformations, the wonderful animation, and the fun, cinematic flair on every kung fu kick and perfectly baked cake.”
VGC’s review of Mario vs Donkey Kong called it “a faithful revamp of the GBA original, to a fault.”
Also in Tuesday’s financial results, Nintendo confirmed that it will announce its next console during the current financial year, year ends in March 2025.
A Nintendo Direct has been scheduled for June.
In a short statement, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furkawa said: “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”
