Pokemon Paradise Dragona cards shown off at Pokemon World Championships

The first cards from the upcoming Pokemon TCG set, Paradise Dragona, have been shown off at the Pokemon World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.

As reported by PokeBeach, the cards, which will likely be released in English as part of the upcoming Surging Sparks set in November, include Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex.

The Latias and Latios cards, both of which are illustration rares, feature artwork that connects each card, meaning these cards will likely be hugely sought-after collector’s items.

The cards were revealed as part of the 2024 Pokemon World Championships. The event – which sees players across video games, trading card game and Pokemon Go battle it out for thousands of dollars – often features announcements of future products.

The Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara announced during the opening ceremony on Friday that Sunday’s closing ceremony will feature “special news” about the future of the Pokemon video game franchise.

It’s unclear if Ishihara was referring to the main series of games, or Pokemon Go. A recent Pokemon Go update added the framework to introduce Dynamax Pokemon and Gigantimax Pokemon, a mechanic introduced in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

The next game in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Legends Z-A, was announced earlier this year.

The game, which will be the second Pokémon Legends game following Pokémon Legends Arceus, was revealed during a Pokémon Presents showcase last month.

Set for release in 2025, Pokémon Legends Z-A will see players revisit the Kalos region and Lumoise City.
