Pokemon fans open 20,000 cards in 24 hours to break Guinness World Record
Over 1500 Pokemon card packs were opened to break the world record
A group of Pokemon fans has broken the world record for the longest unboxing livestream by opening Pokemon trading card packs for over 24 hours.
The stream was to celebrate the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Surging Sparks, the newest set of trading cards.
During the stream, over 1500 packs were opened by prominent Pokemon content creators including Serebii webmaster Joe Merrick, Instagram creator PokeGirlRach, and TikTok creator Mayplaystv.
The cards that were opened during the stream will be donated to various charities in the UK including Barnardo’s.
“It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious Guinness World Records title alongside an amazing team of content creators,” said Peter Murphy, senior director of marketing at The Pokémon Company International.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game’s next expansion is planned for release in January. Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet: Prismatic Evolutions will focus on Eevee and its evolutions.
The set’s official description reads: “From fluffy and fiery to freezing and fanciful, Eevee and its many Evolutions hold a special place in the hearts of Pokémon Trainers across the land!
“Discover their unique new powers as Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, and look for treasure of your very own across a grand gathering of Pokémon ex from Paldea and beyond. Glittering gems and hidden patterns await at the end of the rainbow in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions expansion!”
