PlayStation’s sci-fi multiplayer FPS Concord gets first gameplay footage and release date
It’s the debut game from Washington-based Firewalk Studios
Concord, PlayStation‘s sci-fi multiplayer FPS, has been given a release date.
The game will be released on PS5 and PC on August 23, with a beta taking place in July.
A separate CGI trailer was also shown, introducing players to some of the characters they will control and encounter in the game.
Concord is a 5v5 team-based shooter, where players compete as ‘freegunners’ and have to take on opposing teams.
The game will add new cinematic vignettes every week, so players can learn more about its characters.
Concord was first officially announced a year ago, and was described at the time by game director Ryan Ellis as “a bringing together of peoples” and “the power of games to build connection and inspire social play”.
“The Firewalk team is driven by the type of exciting, unexpected moments and shared experiences that multiplayer games create,” Ellis said at the time. “Every time you log on is the beginning of a new adventure and every match is an opportunity for a new story.
“It’s these ideals that define Concord, its unique universe of vibrant worlds, and its rich cast of colorful characters.”
Concord is the debut game from Firewalk Studios, a Washington-based developer acquired by Sony in April 2023.
The developer, which was part of independent game company ProbablyMonsters, was already working in partnership with PlayStation on Concord, before being fully acquired by the console maker.
Announcing Firewalk’s acquisition, then-Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said: “Firewalk Studios is led by a world-class team that is highly experienced and deeply passionate about creating exceptional multiplayer games that foster memorable shared experiences.
“I’m confident the studio’s upcoming project will be a robust addition to PlayStation Studios’ portfolio, and its live service and technology expertise will be instrumental in helping grow PlayStation’s reach.”
