PlayStation Studios has confirmed its new head of mobile

The mobile department of PlayStation Studios has a new leader.

Olivier Courtemarche has been co-head of mobile at PlayStation Studios since June 2023, but has now become the full head of mobile.

As spotted by Mobilegamer.biz, Courtemarche made the brief announcement on his LinkedIn page, saying: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as head of mobile, PlayStation Studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

PlayStation’s previous mobile boss, Nicola Sebastiani, left the company in June 2023, two years after the division was established. At the time, Courtemarche and Kris Davis were promoted to co-heads of mobile.

It’s still currently unclear what PlayStation Studios’ future strategy is for its mobile division. At the same time as it was closing Concord studio Firewalk, Sony also shut down mobile developer Neon Koi.

The studio, then known as Savage Game Studios, was Sony’s first major acquisition in its plans to expand into mobile game development. The studio was working on a mobile action game that was cancelled.

At the time of its closure, Sony’s Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst said mobile would remain “a priority growth area” for Sony, but noted that it was still in the “very early stage of our mobile efforts”.

“To achieve success in this area we need to concentrate on titles that are in-line with PlayStation Studios’ pedigree and have the potential to reach more players globally,” he said.

“With this re-focused approach, Neon Koi will close, and its mobile action game will not be moving forward. I want to express my gratitude to everyone at Neon Koi for their hard work and endless passion to innovate.”
