PlayStation premieres 9 minutes of PS5 Godfall gameplay
Gearbox ‘looter-slasher’ is out this year
Gearbox premiered nine minutes of Godfall PlayStation 5 gameplay during Sony’s State of Play on Thursday.
Developed by Counterplay Games, the fantasy “looter-slasher” became the first officially announced PlayStation 5 game when it was unveiled at The Game Awards in December.
It’s currently confirmed for release exclusively on PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store during the 2020 holiday season. However, Counterplay’s website previously stated it was in development for “next-gen consoles,” suggesting it could be a timed exclusive.
The Godfall development team is comprised of around 75 people with experience working on the Ratchet & Clank series, God of War, Destiny 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Diablo III, Gears 5, Star Wars Battlefront, Titanfall 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Evolve, Halo 5, Battlefield 3, BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty, Injustice 2 and Overwatch.
Counterplay Games CEO Keith Lee told the PlayStation Blog in December that Godfall will include a strong focus on co-operative gameplay and be playable in solo, duo or trio.
“Our goal with Godfall is to reforge fantasy ARPG-style loot progression and third-person melee combat into a whole new genre: The Looter-Slasher,” he said.
“Namely, our game is uniquely one-part gear driven and one-part player-skill driven. Godfall retains the desire for offense-oriented, mastery-driven combat, rewarding you with head-turning, powerful loot that then inspires your next set of character builds.”
