PlayStation Portal’s latest update is now available
The PS5 accessory can now connect to public Wi-Fi networks, among other features
Sony has released the latest PlayStation Portal update.
As previously reported, the update lets players connect the PS5 remote play device to public Wi-Fi networks.
In order to do so, PS Portal can now generate a QR code for players to scan using a mobile or tablet, which can then be used to complete the necessary sign-in steps.
The update also introduces visual feedback when using the touchpad area on the Portal’s screen during remote play.
And players can now choose to display the system’s remaining battery level as a percentage on the status bar at the top right of the screen.
The update also improves system software performance and stability, as well as the messages and usability on some screens, according to Sony‘s patch notes, which we’ve republished in full below.
PS Portal Version: 3.0.0
- PS Portal can now connect to public networks. If there’s a public network available in places such as hotels, cafes, and airports, you can connect your PS Portal to the Wi-Fi by entering the required information (such as ID, password, and room number) using your mobile phone or computer.
- To connect to public networks, make sure that the initial setup for your PS Portal is completed.
- To comply with regulations for various countries and regions, PS Portal might not support connections to certain public networks, such as 5GHz networks.
- When you use the touchpad area on the screen during Remote Play, you’ll now see visual feedback.
- Your PS Portal can now display the remaining battery level as a percentage on the status bar at the top right of the screen. Open the quick menu, go to Settings > System > Battery, and then turn on Show Battery Percentage.
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
- We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
Sony has reportedly decided not to attend Gamescom for the fifth consecutive year.
In recent years the company has opted to showcase its games through its own digital events, rather than host conferences or have a significant physical presence at major industry conventions like August’s expo in Germany, which comes at a considerable expense.
Sony used a State of Play presentation in May to announce launch dates for 2024 releases including Concord (August 23), Astro Bot (September 6) and the PC version of God of War Ragnarök (September 19).
