PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds headlines December’s PlayStation Now update

Sony has revealed December’s additions to the PlayStation Now line-up.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been added to the subscription service until March 3, 2020, while Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and F1 2019 are new permanent titles.

Sony slashed PlayStation Now prices in early October in a bid to be more competitive with rival streaming services.

It also said PlayStation Now would be adding “blockbuster” games on a monthly basis, available for a limited time, starting with God of War, Grand Theft Auto V, Infamous Second Son and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, in addition to permanent additions to the catalogue.

Persona 5 and Middle-Earth: Shadow of War were been added to the subscription service for a limited time beginning in November.

Reporting its second quarter earnings on October 30, Sony said PlayStation Now had reached one million subscribers, up over 40% since April 2019, when the service had 700,000 paying members.

“Since starting the service renewal, subscribers have steadily increased,” Sony senior EVP and CFO Hiroki Totoki said.

“This is a great step toward the target we mentioned at the investor relations day of growing subscribers by an average of more than 50% per year. Through this renewal, we are aiming to assess the potential of cloud gaming services.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said in July he expects PS Now to play an increasingly important role in the PlayStation business over the coming years.

“We are getting more confident with the [PlayStation Now] service and we are really going to start to push it hard this year and in years to follow,” he said.
