Players can now playtest The Witcher 3’s official mod tools
The full release of the REDkit editor is scheduled for later in the year
The official mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Steam is now open for playtesting.
Players can sign up to playtest The Witcher 3 REDkit on Steam now.
“The Witcher 3 REDkit is a comprehensive modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt we’re currently developing,” a CD Projekt Red description reads.
“It is based on the same set of tools that were used by our developers to create the game and should allow for nearly limitless freedom in modding it.”
Access to the playtest will be distributed in batches. Full access to the tools for all players will be released later this year, but no specific date has been provided as yet.
Two thirds of CD Projekt are now working on the next game in the Witcher series, codenamed Polaris.
As revealed during an earnings conference for the publisher’s FY 2023 earnings, the development team now sits at 403 staff.
CD Projekt confirmed last May that it had wrapped up its research phase on the game, which will be the first part of a new trilogy, and progressed to the pre-production phase.
It said last November that almost 330 developers were working on the project, making it CD Projekt’s biggest development team.
“We’d like to have around 400 people working on the project by the middle of the year”, Badowski said at the time, a target which has now been met.
