Platinum confirms Project GG is the game it teased as ‘unlike anything done before’
Hero game was said to be “unlike anything else”
PlatinumGames has confirmed that Hideki Kamiya’s next hero game, Project GG was the original IP it teased last year as being “unlike anything else” done before.
Project GG, announced in February, is an action game featuring a giant hero, described as the “climax” to director Hideki Kamiya’s superhero trilogy, following Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101.
Few details have been revealed about the game beyond that. However, in a new interview with VGC Platinum’s studio head has confirmed that Project GG was the unannounced original IP he teased early last year.
In a May 2019 interview Atsushi Inaba said of the company’s unannounced action game (now confirmed to be referring to Project GG):
“Right now we’re in the middle of designing something that has never been done before. I know a lot of people say that, but the game we’re working on truly is unlike anything else.
“Even for our varied history of veteran game developers, this is something that has never been designed before. So from a game design perspective, we’re very excited right now.”
Inaba previously alluded to an unannounced project during a BitSummit panel in May 2018, claiming that one game Platinum was working on would “turn the action genre on its head”.
However, it’s not clear if he was referring to the same title since Platinum still has a fifth announcement to be revealed as part of its Platinum Four marketing campaign.
On the subject of further original IPs potentially being announced, Inaba told VGC in our most recent interview that, “We’ll probably have more news for people in just the next few months about something.”
Inaba and Kamiya were speaking to VGC to mark the digital release of The Wonderful 101 Remastered in North America and Europe this week.
