Pinhead from Hellraiser is making his video game debut in Dead by Daylight
The iconic horror villain has never been in a game before
Iconic ’80s horror villain Pinhead is coming to multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight.
The antagonist of the Hellraiser series is one of the most well-known faces in horror, but has never appeared in a video game until now.
The official Dead by Daylight Twitter account teased the news yesterday with a short video showing the Hellraiser logo.
Although the Pinhead DLC has yet to be officially released, players are already able to try him out in the game’s public test build available to Steam players.
According to players trying out the test build, Pinhead attacks opponents by throwing chains at them, and has a graphic finishing move where chains from all directions to hook the opponent as they’re then dragged down to Hell.
Pinhead is the latest licensed horror character to appear in the game. Previous DLC has included Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface, the Pighead killer from Saw, the Demogorgon from Stranger Things, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill and Nemesis from Resident Evil.
Despite the popular of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser franchise and its lead antagonist in particular, Pinhead has never appeared in a video game to date.
A Hellraiser game based on Wolfenstein 3D was planned for the NES, Mega Drive and Lynx and was supposedly in development by notorious unlicensed NES game developer Color Dreams, with ads appearing in numerous magazines. The NES version was due to use an enhanced cartridge called the SuperCartridge but the game was ultimately cancelled.
Since Color Dreams still had the licence to use the Wolfenstein 3D engine, it instead went in completely the opposite direction and, under its religious Wisdom Tree label, released Super Noah’s Ark 3D on the SNES.
