Pharrell Williams-led Louis Vuitton event opens with iconic Final Fantasy 7 theme
Final Fantasy 7’s most famous theme was used during a fashion show this week
A Louis Vuitton fashion show, debuting a new collection by Pharrell Williams, has used one of Final Fantasy’s most famous compositions as its opening music.
The show, which can be viewed below, took place in Paris this week. To open the show, models walked the circular catwalk to One Winged Angel, Sephiroth’s theme from Final Fantasy 7. The song was originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu.
This performance of the song was arranged and orchestrated by Thomas Roussel. Following the performance of One-Winged Angel, Pharrell debuted new music.
This is the latest instance of pop culture outside of video games referencing the iconic JRPG theme.
AEW wrestler Kenny Omega has referenced both FF7 and Sephiroth multiple times during his career. His finishing move is named the One Winged Angel, and during his entrance at Wrestle Kingdom 17, he entered a rearrangement of Sephiroth’s theme from Final Fantasy 7. Omega also debuted a new song featuring Nobuo Uematsu earlier this year.
Composer Masayoshi Soken recently told VGC that his favorite video game soundtrack of the year was from Fantasian: Neo Dimension by Nobuo Uematsu.
“I’m the kind of person to listen to a wide range of genres with no particular limit, having rock, bossa nova and classical music as my pillars, but I’ve been listening to game soundtracks less and less recently,” Soken said.
