PDP may be teasing new guitar controllers for Fortnite’s Rock Band-like mode

Peripheral maker PDP has teased plans to launch new guitar controllers for music games.

The company, which last produced music controllers for Harmonix’s Rock Band 4, ceased production of the peripherals some years ago, leading to a hugely inflated secondary market.

But in a post on X this week, PDF seemingly hinted at plans to launch new guitar controllers in January 2024.

The post includes several emojis seemingly referencing the recently launched Fortnite Festival mode, which was developed by Epic-owned Harmonix.

The music game, which lets players perform in a band with friends or play solo with tracks from popular artists, doesn’t currently support guitar controllers, but Epic has said it plans to introduce the feature in 2024.

While guitar controllers can technically be used on the PC, the game doesn’t currently support strumming, so those using guitar controllers currently are effectively just replacing the buttons on a controller, rather than having full guitar functionality.

PDP previously faced criticism from some fans for the low availability of some its Rock Band 4 products, including a legacy adapter that allowed players to use older guitar controllers on modern hardware.

Epic added three new live service experiences to Fortnite last week in the form of Fortnite Festival, Lego Fortnite and Fortnite: Rocket Racing. It said these will be permanent additions to the free-to-play title rather than limited time modes.
