Palworld has surpassed Counter-Strike’s concurrent player record on Steam
Only PUBG: Battlegrounds has attracted a larger number of concurrent players
Palworld now has the second highest concurrent player count in Steam‘s history.
On Tuesday the game hit 1,864,421 concurrent players, according to independent Steam data tracker SteamDB.
That saw it overtake Valve’s Counter-Strike, which peaked at 1,818,773 concurrent players in May 2023.
Only one game has ever attracted more concurrent players on Steam. PUBG: Battlegrounds currently holds the record of 3,257,248, which it set in January 2018.
Referencing Palworld’s new concurrent player milestone, developer and publisher Pocketpair wrote on X: “Thank you for playing the game even though it is a weekday!
“The team is working hard to ensure that you can enjoy the game even more comfortably.”
Pocketpair also claimed that Palworld has sold over six million copies in only four days.
The game was released in early access for PC and Xbox last Friday. It’s also available on Game Pass.
Palworld is described by its creator as an “action-adventure survival game” in which players can battle and capture Pals to use for base building, traversal, and combat.
Despite its significantly different tone and game style, many of Palworld’s monster designs bear striking similarities to Pokémon’s, leading to accusations that some of them may have been copied rather than just having been inspired by them.
