Outer Wilds DLC is seemingly being teased by Annapurna and Mobius
After ‘Echoes of the Eye’ appears in Steam records
Outer Wilds appears to be in line for some DLC, according to a SteamDB entry and subsequent hints from the game’s publisher and developer.
Games industry professional Simon Carless noticed on Wednesday that SteamDB had been updated with an entry for something called ‘Outer Wilds – Echoes of the Eye’, a listing which names the main game as its parent.
“Looks like some DLC (‘Echoes Of The Eye’) unexpectedly popped up in Steam records,” he tweeted.
Publisher Annapurna Interactive drew attention to the message by retweeting it with an eye emoji.
The game’s developer, Mobius Digital, then retweeted Annapurna’s message with two eye emojis.
Kelsey Beachum, a writer and narrative designer who worked on Outer Wilds, also got in on the action.
Inspired by films including Apollo 13 and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Outer Wilds is described as an “open world mystery about a solar system trapped in an endless time loop”.
The space exploration game debuted for PC (via the Epic Games Store) and Xbox One (including on Game Pass) in May 2019, before making its way to PS4 in October 2019 and Steam in June 2020.
It won multiple Game of the Year awards from publications including Giant Bomb, Polygon, Eurogamer and The Guardian.
Outer Wilds will be released for Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2021.
Mobius co-creative lead Loan Verneau has said subscription services like Xbox Game Pass give “weirder things” like Outer Wilds a chance to shine.
