Oddworld Soulstorm releases in April and will be free for PS5 PS Plus members
Upcoming game is described as a complete reboot of Abe’s Exoddus
Oddworld Inhabitants has announced that Oddworld: Soulstorm will be released on April 6, 2021.
The news was confirmed during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast on Thursday.
The game will be free to download for PS5 PlayStation Plus players from its release until May 3, 2021.
A “2.9D” platformer featuring destructible environments and new crafting gameplay, Soulstorm is described as a complete reboot of Abe’s Exoddus, the 1998 sequel to Abe’s Odyssey which suffered critically for having to be developed in less than a year.
The game is also set for release on PS4 and PC exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
“In Oddworld: Soulstorm, you reprise the role of Abe the Mudokon, accidental hero turned leader of a growing revolution,” Lorne Lanning, Oddworld Inhabitants‘ co-founder and creative director, told the PlayStation Blog.
“Abe is a floor-waxer at Mullock the Glukkon’s RuptureFarms meat packing plant. He accidentally learns about Molluck’s plan to turn Mudokons into tasty treats. He wants to save himself, but he’s compelled him to try to save everyone. His selfless act is the spark that sets the revolution ablaze.”
Lanning added: “Abe’s journey is one of hope and freedom. The game has a rich and engaging narrative that is very dark with a twisted sense of humor that shines a light on the ironies that exist in the human condition.
“Your actions in-game will decide the fate of Abe and all you manage to liberate along with way.”
