Octopath Traveler 2 is officially coming to Switch
The sequel will feature eight new travelers and release next year
Octopath Traveler 2 has been announced for Nintendo Switch, with a February 24, 2023 release date.
The game stars eight new travellers embarking on a journey in the land of Celestia. Each traveller’s path action differs between day and night in-game.
Square Enix previously said it was considering classic games from its 16-bit catalogue to create ‘HD-2D’ remakes for.
HD-2D is what Square Enix uses to describe the art style given to its Switch games Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy.
The style places 2D sprites in a 3D world, designed to look like an ‘HD’ take on the SNES era.
The game, which appeared briefly online ahead of the event will see the new characters take on a new adventure.
New characters revealed in the trailer include; “The Warrior” Hikari, who is on a journey home, “The Dancer” Agnea, who is on a journey for stardom, “The Merchant” Partitio, who is on a journey for prosperity, “The Scholar” Osyald who is on a journey for revenge, “The Thief” Throne who is on a journey for freedom, “The Cleric” Temenos, who is on a journey for truth, “The Hunter” Ochette, who is on a journey for legends and “The Apothecary” Castti who is on a journey for memories.
The trailer included brief snippets of gameplay, showing what appears to be a noticeable graphical improvement over the first game in terms of lighting.
