NSFW: This is the content PlayStation censored in horror game Martha is Dead
The full list of scenes censored on PS4 and PS5 have been revealed; Xbox and PC versions unaffected
Martha is Dead developer LKA stated last week that the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game would be censored, and VGC can now reveal exactly which scenes were changed.
The edited scenes can be seen in full in our video below, which was captured on the uncut Xbox Series X version of the game.
We should note, however, that this video contains extremely graphic scenes of mutilation.
The nature of the video also means that it spoils certain scenes in the game, so anyone planning to buy the game may wish to wait until they’ve played through it.
You can watch the scenes cut from the PS4 and PS5 versions of Martha is Dead here:
If you’d rather not watch the video and would rather just read the list of changes, we will list these below.
Warning: the rest of this article contains graphic descriptions, as well as spoilers for Martha is Dead.
The PS4 and PS5 versions have mainly been censored in three scenes. Two of these are interactive on Xbox and PC and have had the interactivity removed, whereas the third involves dialogue which has been completely cut from the game.
The full list of changes is as follows:
- The face peeling scene is no longer interactive
- The scene whereby Giulia cuts open Martha’s womb is no longer interactive
- Option has been added to skip the censored scenes while they are playing
- Disclaimer text at the start of the game has been updated. It is now more sensitive, clearer and includes the warning of miscarriage references
- The Safe In Our World message which appears at the end providing a link where help can be found now also appears after the disclaimer at the start (all platforms)
- Any mention of masturbation has been totally removed during The Church chapter as VO and text
The game will also add a prompt at the start of the game, asking players if they want a more censored version. This can also be toggled on or off in the in-game menu.
If players choose to censor the game further, the following additional changes are made:
- The face peeling scene is skipped. The scene returns when Giulia is holding Martha’s skin
- The womb cutting scene is skipped
- The direct miscarriage scene is skipped
- Hanging scene is removed and the camera has a blur effect when focusing on the baby
In a statement posted last week, LKA said: “Martha is Dead is a narrative adventure recommended for adult audiences only, with play consisting of potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players.”
The statement continues: “It is with regret that we have had to modify the experience on the PS5 and PS4 versions with some elements no longer playable.”
