No Man’s Sky’s Beyond update adds VR support on August 14

Alongside “a radical new social and multiplayer experience”

No Man’s Sky’s eagerly anticipated Beyond update is to launch on August 14.

The free update for the PS4 and PC game will introduce PlayStation VR and Steam VR support, an updated multiplayer experience called No Man’s Sky Online, plus a third, as yet unannounced feature set.

“Beyond will contain three major updates rolled into one larger free release,” Hello Games said in a blog post confirming the launch date. “These changes are a mix of features we’ve been dreaming of for a while, and a reaction to how we have seen folks playing since the release of NEXT.

“An expanded Online experience will bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.”

The studio’s founder, Sean Murray, said of the VR update in March: “No Man’s Sky VR is not a separate mode, but the entire game brought to life in virtual reality.

“By bringing full VR support, for free, to the millions of players already playing the game, No Man’s Sky will become perhaps the most-owned VR title when released. This amazes us, and is utterly humbling.”
