No Man’s Sky on Switch has been delayed until October

The Switch version of No Man’s Sky has been delayed from its original summer release window.

Developer Hello Games has confirmed that the game will now be released on October 7.

A physical edition of the PlayStation 5 edition will also be released on the same day. The game has been available digitally on PlayStation 5 since the console launched in November 2020.

Nintendo originally announced plans to bring Hello Games’ sci-fi title to Switch during a Nintendo Direct presentation in February, when it was said to be coming in summer 2022.

“Embark on an epic voyage across the galaxy as you scavenge for resources, craft tools, and fight to survive in an infinite procedurally generated universe when No Man’s Sky lands on Nintendo Switch this summer”, the announce trailer’s accompanying blurb read.

Following the announcement today of the new release date, Hello Games founder Sean Murray said: “I think folks are going to be blown away when they finally get to play this game on such a tiny device.

“It really is an entire universe in the palm of your hand. It has been a huge undertaking, but a very rewarding one for our small team, and I’m really proud of the result.”

No Man’s Sky received a mixed reception at release following years of marketing hype, but eventually gained a large fanbase following continued improvements via updates.

Since that controversial launch, No Man’s Sky has received 20 major content updates in six years. The Switch version will include “everything that was possible and applicable to be crammed in from those updates, as well as continuous updates in the future delivering new content,” according to a press release.

Murray said in 2020 that Hello Games was working on a new project described as “a huge, ambitious game like No Man’s Sky.”

While Murray would not reveal details on the new game at he time, he said he had learned plenty of lessons from No Man’s Sky’s launch.
