No Man’s Sky and Marvel’s Iron Man coming to PlayStation VR
London Studio’s Blood & Truth, Everybody’s Golf VR release dates also announced
Sony has made a string of PlayStation VR announcements, including No Man’s Sky VR, a new Iron Man VR game, plus a release date for London Studio’s Blood & Truth.
No Man’s Sky VR will launch as part of Beyond, a free game update coming to PS4 and PC in the summer of 2019. Beyond will also include an updated multiplayer experience called No Man’s Sky Online, plus a third, as yet unannounced feature set.
Hello Games founder Sean Murray said of the PS VR and Steam VR offering: “No Man’s Sky VR is not a separate mode, but the entire game brought to life in virtual reality. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, Next or any other update is ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.
“By bringing full VR support, for free, to the millions of players already playing the game, No Man’s Sky will become perhaps the most-owned VR title when released. This amazes us, and is utterly humbling. The team is working so hard to live up to the expectations that creates.”
Arriving in 2019, Marvel’s Iron Man VR was announced with a trailer, which you can view below. The game has been in development for the past two years at Seattle-based Camouflaj, the studio behind stealth thriller République.
Camouflaj director Ryan Payton said: “What better way to announce the game than unveiling our brand-new Iron Man armor envisioned by legendary Marvel illustrator and costume designer, Adi Granov. In close collaboration with our partners and friends at Marvel Games, Adi created a new armor that, like the game, mixes a classic comic book aesthetic with an ultra-modern twist. We hope you love the Impulse Armor as much as we do.
He added: “With our game, we wanted to tell more than just an origin story. In Marvel’s Iron Man VR the player, who plays as the genius inventor Tony Stark, confronts ghosts from his past—powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for. By fully embracing the magic of PlayStation VR, players will come face-to-face with iconic allies and Super Villains as they jet around the globe on a heroic mission to save not only Stark Industries, but the world itself.”
Sony also confirmed a Blood & Truth release date of May 28. Developed by SIE London Studio, the PS VR exclusive was inspired by the London Heist experience featured in PlayStation VR Worlds.
PlayStation VR Worlds lead designer Simon Hermitage said the studio set out to create “the ultimate PS VR blockbuster – one where the player could truly live out their wildest action hero fantasies in a full-length first-person shooter”.
He added: “Blood & Truth pushes you through a rollercoaster ride of a storyline, set against iconic London locations. You’ll be dual-wielding automatic pistols while leaping from exploding buildings, exchanging gunfire from the back of an armoured vehicle, battling through hordes of enemies on daring rescue missions, and chasing down targets through the grimy back-streets of London.”
Sony also released the following trailer, showcasing PS VR games launching over the coming months, including Everybody’s Golf VR on May 21.
Following its launch in October 2016, PlayStation VR sales topped 4.2 million units worldwide as of March 3, 2019, Sony has claimed.
