Nintendo‘s parental controls app has been down for almost a week.
The app, which allows parents to track the amount of time younger users spend on the Nintendo Switch, as well as limit the amount of time that a younger user can use the system, has been experiencing network issues since October 9.
Nintendo’s Japanese customer support X account wrote on Tuesday: “We are currently experiencing a network issue with our smartphone app ‘Nintendo Switch Parental Controls,’ and since Sunday, October 13th, the time you’ve played on your Nintendo Switch has not been reflected in the app.
“We apologize for the inconvenience. Please wait a little longer until the issue is resolved.”
The latter part of the message appears to suggest that since Sunday, October 13, accounts that are set up with play limits haven’t correctly tracked the amount of time played by users.
When a time limit is set up on the system, an alarm is displayed to players when they have reached the time limit. However, this doesn’t suspend software automatically or end a session.
The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app allows parents to monitor how long games have been played, set time limits, and remotely suspend software. The app can also restrict which games can be played on the system.
Parental controls can be disabled on the console itself, even if the app isn’t functioning.
Nintendo plans to announce its next console during its current fiscal year, which runs until March 31, 2025.
