Nintendo will reveal a mystery game from Shantae’s developer on Friday
Unannounced title is based on a third-party IP
Nintendo will unveil an unannounced game from Shantae developer Wayforward on Friday.
The game, which is based on “a third-party property,” will be showcased during a Nintendo Treehouse live stream on Friday, July 10 at 10am PT / 6pm BST alongside new Paper Mario: The Origami King gameplay.
California-based Wayforward is known for its platforming series Shantae, which has players controlling a half-genie who can transform into various forms, each with their own abilities.
During its near-30-year history, the developer has worked on plenty of licensed games, including titles based on Double Dragon, Duck Tales, Adventure Time and Marvel Puzzle Quest.
Wayforward has so far been a prolific developer of Nintendo Switch games, with ten titles released or planned for the platform including Shantae and the Seven Sirens and River City Girls (with Arc System Works).
Nintendo will reportedly also premiere a full Nintendo Direct presentation later this month.
That’s according to a noted insider, who suggested this weekend that the Direct could take place on Monday, July 20. The source has previously leaked accurate timings related to Nintendo Directs, including the Direct Mini that took place in March this year.
The timing would put the Direct beyond the release of Paper Mario: The Origami King, which remains the firm’s only major release confirmed for the rest of the year.
