Nintendo theme park images show construction progress
Universal Studios Japan attraction opening in spring 2020
New images showing the construction of the Super Nintendo World theme park at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka have been published online.
Twitter user @lcastudios_usj has been documenting the progress of construction, which began in June 2017 and is set to be completed next spring, in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Super Nintendo World will house a range of themed attractions, shops and restaurants. Universal Parks & Resorts CEO Tom Williams recently said it will initially include two rides, Super Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Adventures.
VGC's Nintendo Features:
History of Mario Kart | Best Wii Games | Best N64 Games | Best GameCube Games | Switch classic games | How to buy Switch games from different regions | Super Nintendo World Stamps guide | Super Nintendo World Keys guide | Pokémon Go free codes
It will also feature an interactive element involving magnetic bracelets that guests can use to interact with the land’s environment.
Visitors will be able to track “scores” gained through interactions and rides, said Williams, and this scorekeeping will interface “with your game console so you can build on it and come back again”.
Following the Japan opening, Super Nintendo World is scheduled to come to Universal’s Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore parks, although a timeline for openings outside of Japan hasn’t been announced.
Nintendo Switch sales have surpassed 10 million units in Europe, the platform holder said this month.
