Nintendo theme park details to be announced imminently
Universal Studios sets reveal for midday Japan time
Universal Studios Japan will announce new information on its planned Nintendo World theme park imminently.
The announcement will be made at midday on January 14 in Japan, which is 7pm PT on the 13th and 3am GMT on the 14th in the UK.
UPDATE 14/01: A new video and details have been released for Super Nintendo World, the theme park land set to open first in Universal Studios Japan this summer.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: It’s likely Universal will confirm its opening schedule for the Nintendo park, which has been under construction for 18 months ahead of a tentative spring 2020 launch.
Super Nintendo World will house themed attractions, shops and restaurants. Universal Parks & Resorts CEO Tom Williams recently said it will initially include two rides, Super Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Adventures.
A recent report describing Nintendo World’s Mario Kart theme park ride claimed it will feature AR goggles and cars that can ‘drift’ around corners.
The park as a whole will focus on interactive elements, with magnetic bracelets given to guests able to interact with the land’s environment.
Visitors will be able to track “scores” gained through interactions and rides, said Williams, and this score-keeping will interface “with your game console so you can build on it and come back again”.
Following the Japan opening, Super Nintendo World is scheduled to come to Universal’s Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore parks, although a timeline for openings outside of Japan hasn’t been announced.
