Nintendo Switch and EA Sports College Football 25 hit huge US sales milestones
Switch tops PS2 and EA Sports College Football 25 becomes the best-selling sports game ever
Nintendo Switch and EA Sports College Football 25 have reached massive sales milestones in the United States.
Nintendo’s console has surpassed the lifetime sales of Sony’s PS2, while EA’s college football title has become the best-selling sports game ever based on dollar sales.
That’s according to Mat Piscatella, executive director of video games at market research firm Circana.
“With its 46.6 million units sold life-to-date, Switch now ranks 2nd in all-time units sold across all video game hardware platforms in the US, trailing only Nintendo DS,” he wrote on Bluesky.
Sony recently confirmed that 160 million PS2 consoles have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2000. It remains the best-selling console of all-time, ahead of DS and Switch, which had sold 154.02 million units and 146.04 million units respectively as of September 2024.
In October, EA Sports College Football 25 overtook dollar sales of Madden NFL 07 to become the best-selling American football game of all time.
And in November, it surpassed the dollar sales of the previous best-selling sports game in US history, NBA 2K21. Piscatella also said EA Sports College Football 25 now ranks among the top 50 best-selling tracked video games of all-time in dollar sales.
It’s currently the best-selling game of the year in the US, ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which topped the sales chart for the second month running in November.
Elsewhere, Circana said PS5 once again led monthly hardware sales in both unit and dollar measures, with Switch ranking second across in both measures.
“PlayStation 5 Pro accounted for 19% of total PlayStation 5 units sold in the month and 28% of dollars,” Piscatella wrote. “Launch month dollar sales of PlayStation 5 Pro were more than 50% higher than the November 2016 launch month sales of PlayStation 4 Pro, while units were 12% lower.”
