Nintendo Australia’s latest Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ad is making players cry
The new commercial is being praised for depicting the benefits of video games
Nintendo’s Australian arm is being praised for its latest commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The new ad is titled “Rediscover Your Sense of Adventure” and shows a businessman travelling home on the bus, looking out the window at a dreary landscape.
When the man gets home late, he lets out a large sigh, and is left in the living room alone as his wife goes to bed.
He then picks up a copy of Tears of the Kingdom and begins to play. The ad can be seen below:

As the man fails numerous times to cross a river in the game, he eventually figures out how to build a raft to get across.
The ad then shows him playing the Switch on the bus and having fun. At one point Link can be seen flying through the sky – when the man looks out the window this time, the sky is a bright blue. He then sighs again, but it’s much happier this time.
The ad has seen widespread approval online, for the way it shows the positive aspects of playing games and how they can provide escapism and entertainment for people who are stressed.
The video on Nintendo Australia’s YouTube channel has around 840,000 views and sits at 98% likes, but it was also uploaded to Twitter by account @ZeldaSequel, where it’s received a further 2.1 million views and has been retweeted over 2000 times.
“Not going to lie, this is what Breath of the Wild did for me,” read a reply by Twitter user @JediJenna. “I was going through a low point in life and it pulled me through because I had something to look forward to and some beauty to appreciate. It made me shift perspectives. I have no doubt Tears of the Kingdom will do that for many others.”
“This two minute commercial genuinely brought a smile on my face,” added user @TBD_64, “not just because I am excited for the game, but also because [of] the pure bliss this man showed while playing it.”
Others stated that the ad made them tear up, with user @LarissaFae saying: “I have had a very emotional day and now I’m sobbing over a damn video game commercial.”
After a number of delays, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12 on Nintendo Switch.
