Nintendo appears to have accidentally revealed a new Kirby game

Nintendo appears to have accidentally revealed a new Kirby game via the search function on its website.

Switch title Kirby Fighters 2 is listed on the platform holder’s official site (as spotted by Wario64) and includes the following description:

Choose from a cast of Kirby’s most iconic copy abilities—including the brand-new Wrestler ability—and duke it out to be the last Kirby standing. Familiar friends and foes like Bandana Waddle Dee and King Dedede also make an appearance as playable characters in the Kirby Fighters 2 game, available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch™ system.

The original Kirby Fighters first appeared as a mini-game in 2014’s Nintendo 3DS title Kirby: Triple Deluxe, before being expanded into a standalone Deluxe version available on the eShop.

As its name suggests, Fighters is a fighting game in which multiple Kirby characters battle eachother, while avoiding hazards and collecting items to enhance their abilities.

There has been huge fan demand this summer for information on Nintendo’s upcoming games, as disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic seemingly led to it being even more secretive than usual.

Although the platform holder’s full Direct presentations are now less frequent than when the initiative started in 2011, the Direct format has evolved with the addition of smaller presentations focused on indie games and individual franchises such as Pokémon and Smash Bros. DLC.

Recently the company has aired a pair of ‘Partner’ Directs, with presentations focused on games from third-party developers.
