New Yo-Kai Watch game further teased for 10th anniversary

The CEO of Level 5 has once again teased the future of the Yo-Kai Watch franchise in a post for the series’ 10th anniversary.

Writing to Twitter, Akihiro Hino said that, “the next work that builds on the flow of Yo-Kai Watch is steadily progressing. The announcement is still a little ahead, but please look forward to it!”

Earlier this year, Hiro teased that “the next amazing thing,” in the series was already in the works.

The Yo-Kai Watchseries launched in Japan in 2013 on the 3DS, and would eventually see a translated release in 2015 in the US and 2016 in Europe.

The monster-catching game, which was often compared to Pokemon at the time of its release, saw several entries in the franchise over the past decade, as well as a huge amount of merchandise.

As of 2022, the game series had sold over 17 million copies worldwide. Six manga adaptations were produced, as well as an anime adaptation.

As part of the celebration of the series’ anniversary, the Yo-Kai Watch films will be streamed to the franchise’s YouTube channel.

The fourth mainline entry in the series was released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2020 in Japan, however, an English translation has yet to be announced.

Despite a strong start to the Western expansion of the series, popularity in the franchise declined steadily, leading to the Yo-Kai Watch toy line ending in 2017 in the West.
