New Xbox exclusives from Obsidian and Compulsion have seemingly leaked

Details on two unannounced Xbox Game Studios exclusives have seemingly leaked.

The titles in question are Obsidian’s ‘Pentiment’ and Compulsion Games’ project ‘Midnight’, Windows Central reports.

The former, which was first revealed by journalist Jeff Grubb, is reportedly being developed by a small team at Obsidian led by Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity director Josh Sawyer, who was also design director on The Outer Worlds.

Planned for release in 2022, it’s said to be a murder mystery RPG in which players take on the role of an investigator in 16th century Europe. It will feature a branching narrative and won’t be combat-oriented.

We Happy Few developer Compulsion, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, is reportedly working on a third-person action game set in a dark and fantastical world that plays home to large and magical creatures.

The single-player “coming of age” tale is said to have a “gothic” vibe and take inspirations from America’s Deep South.

Windows Central’s report follows recent leaks for other Xbox Game Studios projects including Obsidian’s upcoming fantasy RPG Avowed, and a new title codenamed Project Belfry from the studio behind the critically acclaimed The Banner Saga.

The head of Microsoft’s gaming business said this week that Xbox is targeting acquisitions in the causal and social gaming spaces.
