New World Aeternum brings Amazon Games’ MMO to console

New World Aeternum, a reworked version of Amazon‘s first-party MMORPG for console, is coming on October 15, 2024.

Announced at Summer Game Fest 2024 after some light teasing on the game’s X account, the studio let journalists preview the changes ahead of time, helping to clear up the confusion the stage show trailer caused across the community.

New World Aeternum isn’t a standalone experience in the New World universe, but a broad expansion that overhauls the core experience that has already played out across its three years on PC. It includes the base game and last year’s Rise of the Angry Earth expansion.

Talking in a roundtable interview as reported by GLHF, game director Scot Lane confirmed that NPC companions help turn the game into an MMO that can be played entirely solo.

Crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation will ensure that the co-op elements are more accessible than ever, with a new 10-player raid awaited those who fight through the new content. Cross-progression, however, isn’t there.

The changes will apparently mean the main New World quest will take “about 30-50 hours less” to complete than it did at launch, with new endgame activities and a PVP zone to explore when players are done.
