New Tales from the Borderlands gets first trailer and release date
Gearbox shows off the narrative-driven adventure game
Gearbox has released the first New Tales from the Borderlands trailer and confirmed the game’s release date.
Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford took to the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday to unveil the previously teased title.
Following a recent leak, the trailer below also confirmed an October 21, 2022 release date for the narrative adventure game.
New Tales from the Borderlands see players take control of Anu, Octavio and Fran in the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea.
The trailer description reads: “The Borderlands aren’t just home to Vault Hunters, Bandits, and weapons-corp CEOs—they’re also full of downtrodden, intrepid civilians just trying to live under the oppressive, designer wing-tips of the 1%. Something has to give!
“Insert three loveable losers who, individually, can’t stay out of their own way. But together? Well, they might just be able to make their wildest dreams come true!”
It adds: “In this cinematic thrill ride, what happens next is up to you! Meet a motley cast full of misfits, assassin bots and talking guns in this race to the top! Fight back against exploitation and corporate greed in this narrative-driven adventure.”
Gearbox first announced in April that it was developing an “all new Tales from the Borderlands adventure” for release in 2022.
Released in 2014 and developed by Telltale Games, the original Tales from the Borderlands is a five-part episodic game set on Pandora between the events of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3.
Take-Two publishing label 2K said this month that the Borderlands franchise has shipped over 75 million units.
2012’s Borderlands 2 is its top-selling title with over 26 million copies shipped, while 2019’s Borderlands 3 is its fastest selling game with more than 15 million copies shipped.
Saber Interactive owner Embracer Group acquired Texas-based Gearbox last year in a deal that could rise to $1.4 billion.
