New System Shock 3 gameplay teaser reveals SHODAN
Rogue AI stars in latest trailer for OtherSide’s upcoming sequel
OtherSide Entertainment has released a new System Shock 3 trailer.
The pre-alpha gameplay teaser provides a fresh look at the first-person action RPG, including main antagonist SHODAN.
The game’s creative director, Warren Spector, told VGC in May he’s found it “very hard” to balance the level of violence in System Shock 3, considering his stance against gratuitous gore in games.
“System Shock at one level is a survival horror game and achieving horror is about creating tension and making people stop to wonder what lies around the corner,” he said.
“There are expectations with a game like System Shock that I’m going to go a little bit further [with violence] than I normally would. So what I’m trying to do is listen to my team, listen to the audience and adjust my beliefs, or work within my beliefs, appropriately.”
In February, former publisher Starbreeze – which is currently experiencing financial troubles – sold the publishing rights for System Shock 3 back to OtherSide.
Spector subsequently told VGC the studio was in talks with several interested publishers, although he didn’t rule out the possibility of OtherSide self-publishing the immersive sim, even if it’s a situation he’d rather avoid.
