New PUBG studio appoints more Call of Duty and Dead Space talent
Plus a trio of former Telltale Games artists
Recently established PUBG studio Striking Distance has added more former Call of Duty and Dead Space developers to its ranks, along with a trio of ex-Telltale Games artists.
The California-based studio led by former Visceral Games and Sledgehammer Games and general manager Glen Schofield is staffing up to make an “original narrative experience” in the PUBG universe.
New hires include senior visual director Demetrius Leal (CoD WW2, Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3, Dead Space 1 & 2) and lead concept artist Jesse Lee (WW2, Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3, Dead Space), according to their LinkedIn profiles.
Other additions to the team include senior concept artist Robin Chyo (Modern Warfare 3, The Walking Dead, Minecraft: Story Mode, Tales from the Borderlands), senior environment artist Aasim Zubair (Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy, Game of Thrones), and Zhuosi Xu (Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman: The Enemy Within).
The new hires join a team which also includes chief development officer Steve Papoutsis, who led the development of the Dead Space franchise, and chief creative officer Christopher Stone (WW2, Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3, Dead Space 1 & 2).
PUBG Corporation announced the formation of Striking Distance in July.
Schofield said at the time: “As a creative, the freedom to explore the PUBG universe has me excited about the possibilities, which we view as beyond battle royale, and I’m excited for the next step, which is finding the right people to join us on this journey.”
