New NES and SNES games for Switch Online to be released ‘irregularly’
Prior to the SNES library’s launch, NES titles were added on a monthly basis
New NES and SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online will be released “irregularly” going forward, according to Nintendo.
Prior to this week’s launch of a SNES library of games for the subscription service, new NES titles were added on a monthly basis.
However, multiple posts on Nintendo of Japan’s website indicate SNES titles will be added “irregularly” going forward.
NES titles will also be added “irregularly instead of every month,” Nintendo says.
VGC has contacted Nintendo UK to ask if this is the case in all regions and to hopefully get an indication of how frequently new NES and SNES games will be released for Nintendo Switch Online.
A library of 20 SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online launched this week.
Announcing the SNES library during a Nintendo Direct live stream on Wednesday, Shinya Takahashi, a Nintendo director and senior managing executive officer, said: “All 20 of the games you see on screen will launch tomorrow. Of course, we will eventually add more to the line-up.”
Nintendo will also release SNES-style controllers for Nintendo Switch to use with the new library of titles. They’ll cost £26.99 plus shipping in the UK.
The SNES library will include the rewind feature recently released for Switch Online’s NES games.
Over 10 million Nintendo account holders have signed up to Nintendo Switch Online since it debuted in September 2018, according to Nintendo.
