Netflix making new Cuphead animated series
Character-driven comedy stars Cuphead and Mugman
Netflix is to produce a new animated series based on the video game Cuphead.
Titled The Cuphead Show!, it’s being created in partnership with game developer Studio MDHR and print syndication company King Features.
“The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman,” according to a press release.
“Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs.”
Released in 2017 on PC and Xbox One, before making its way to Switch earlier this year, Cuphead has been widely praised for its art direction and boss battles.
The run and gun 2D platformer has won a string of high-profile awards and has sold over four million copies worldwide.
Studio MDHR recently delayed the release Cuphead’s Delicious Last Course expansion from this year to 2020, in order to give it more time to focus on creating a quality product while maintaining a healthy work/life balance for its employees.
It also announced in March that it was working with Microsoft to investigate bringing Xbox Live features to the Switch version of Cuphead.
