NetEase offers compensation after last-minute console delay for hero shooter FragPunk

Marvels Rivals publisher NetEase has announced a last-minute console delay for its new hero shooter FragPunk.

While the game will still be released for PC on March 6, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions have been indefinitely delayed.

Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase last summer, FragPunk is a colorful 5v5 shooter with powerup cards that change the rules of each round. It’s in development at NetEase owned Bad Guitar Studio.

Announcing the delay on X, the FragPunk team said it had encountered “unexpected technical challenges in optimization and adaptation” during the console compliance testing process.

“Rather than rushing the console release and providing a potentially poor user experience, we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of the console versions to ensure that players receive a comparable experience to those on PC,” it explained.

“We understand that delays are frustrating, and we sincerely apologize for the wait. As a gesture of appreciation, we have prepared compensation for both Xbox and PlayStation players, especially those who supported us through pre-orders.”

PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will receive all rewards earned through player engagement from the start of Season 1 until the console version launches, including in-game currencies, cosmetics and experience.

Customers who pre-ordered the game on console will also receive in-game currency worth $10 when the game is released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

However, before then, pre-orders on Xbox and PlayStation will be canceled, and the refund process will be automatically initiated by the platform holders.

Bad Guitar Studio said pre-order bonuses will also be made available in a time-limited way once the console versions are available.

“This delay was not an easy decision, but we are committed to delivering the best possible experience for our players, and this additional time will allow us to fully optimize and polish the console versions for launch,” it added.

“We know this isn’t the news you were hoping for, and we deeply appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued excitement for the game. Our team is working closely with both the Xbox and PlayStation teams to get FragPunk into your hands as soon as possible, and we will keep you updated every step of the way.”
