Naughty Dog has ‘lots of exciting things’ planned for this weekend’s ‘The Last of Us Day’
Annual celebration formerly known as Outbreak Day renamed in light of Covid-19
Naughty Dog has “a lot of exciting things planned” for The Last of Us Day on September 26.
The Last of Us Day is the new name for an annual event that celebrates the series and its community, which was until this year called Outbreak Day.
In a statement on Twitter, Naughty Dog said the event has been renamed in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
“For the last 7 years, September 26 has been our opportunity to recognize and celebrate the incredible passion of The Last of Us community. However, as we thought about the events of the last year and the challenges we all continue to face with COVID-19, we didn’t feel right continuing on under the ‘Outbreak Day’ banner.”
It added: “We have a lot of exciting things planned and we can’t wait to share them with you in just a few days.”
Naughty Dog is known to be working on a new multiplayer game which was originally due to be included with The Last of Us Part 2.
Following its release on June 19, The Last of Us Part 2 sales cleared four million copies worldwide in three days, making it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive to date.
The game will be compatible with PlayStation 5 when the console launches this November, and as one of PS4’s last flagship releases, it would be unsurprising if The Last of Us Part 2 receives some form of next-gen update.
