The MultiVersus closed beta reached more concurrent Steam users than any fighter ever
More than 60,000 users were playing the game at one point
At one point more people were playing MultiVersus at the same time than any other one-on-one fighting game in Steam’s history, despite it still being in closed beta.
The Warner Bros. brawler’s open beta launches on July 26, but early access has been made available for the past week to those who played the closed alpha, those who won codes via Twitch drops, or those who paid for a Founder’s Pack bundle (costing between $40 and $100).
Despite not actually being available to everyone yet, the game has recorded a peak concurrent player count of 62,433 according to SteamDB.

Based on VGC’s research, this is a higher peak than that reached by any other one-on-one fighting game released in Steam‘s history.
VGC studied Steam’s lists of the most popular, highest rated and best selling fighting games and concluded that none of them came close to having more than 60,000 people playing at the same time.
The closest examples we found were:
- Dragon Ball FighterZ – 44,303
- Mortal Kombat 11 – 35,147
- Brawlhalla – 34,816
- Guilty Gear Strive – 31,156
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse – 22,850
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – 19,416
- Tekken 7 – 18,966
- Mortal Kombat X – 15,743
- Street Fighter V – 14,783
- Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl – 13,314
- Melty Blood: Type Lumina – 13,182
When MultiVersus officially enters open beta on Tuesday, at which point LeBron James will also be added as a playable character, the peak concurrent player count has a chance to go higher as everyone locked out of the game will gain access for the first time.
VGC recently reported that MultiVersus is due to receive at least 19 new characters.
In May, an alleged list of yet-to-be included characters was shared on Reddit by the person who originally leaked the existence of MultiVersus in the first place.
This list included 21 fighters, including LeBron James and two other since-confirmed characters, Rick and Morty from the TV show of the same name.
