Mortal Kombat 11 gets Spawn gameplay trailer and release date
Comic book character becomes a playable fighter in mid-March
Warner Bros. has released a gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 11’s latest playable fighter, Spawn.
It shows off the comic book character’s cape, chains and battle axe, all of which can be used against opponents in NetherRealm’s fighting game.
Spawn will join the Mortal Kombat 11 roster on March 17 as part of the early access period for Kombat Pack owners, ahead of a general release on March 24.
The character is voiced by Keith David, the voice actor from the HBO animated series Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.
“Spawn was formerly Al Simmons, the U.S. government’s greatest soldier and most effective assassin, before being mercilessly executed by his own men,” according to the official blurb.
“Resurrected from the ashes of his own grave in a flawed agreement with the powers of darkness, Simmons was reborn as a creature from the depths of Hell – a Hellspawn.”
Mortal Kombat 11 released in April 2019 and was the fifth best-selling game in the US last year.
VGC’s Mortal Kombat 11 review said the title’s “close to being the best all-round fighting game package but falls just short due to an aggressive need for currency grinding to unlock content.”
Mortal Kombat Kollection Online, which looks set to bring the original Mortal Kombat trilogy to Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC, was rated by European game classification body PEGI in January.
Warner Bros. also plans to release a new Mortal Kombat live action movie in March 2021.
