More Xbox franchises including Gears of War ‘will come to PS5 this year’

Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring even more of its key franchises to PlayStation 5 this year.

On Friday, it was claimed by a noted insider that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are both being planned for release on Sony’s console, as part of Microsoft’s new strategy of releasing more games on rival platforms.

Now, a new report from Windows Central corroborates those claims with its own sources, and reports that further franchises are also being planned for PS5 by Xbox in 2025.

According to the publication, Ninja Theory’s Hellblade 2, strategy title Age of Mythology, and “potentially” Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition are all slated for release on PlayStation 5 this year.

Microsoft’s gaming CEO recently reiterated that Xbox won’t rule out any first-party Xbox game potentially coming to rival platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo in the future, following a first wave of ports that included Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and more.

Speaking to Bloomberg in November, Phil Spencer reportedly said he was pleased with the results of the first wave of multiplatform releases, and that Microsoft would bring more titles to other platforms.

“I do not see sort of red lines in our portfolio that say ‘thou must not,’ ” he said, adding that it was too early to make a decision on the next version of Halo.

While figures for the multiplatform Xbox games haven’t been released, there are signs of success. Rare’s Sea of Thieves was PS5’s most downloaded game in May, in both the US and Europe.

Microsoft has announced Doom: The Dark Ages is also planned for release on PS5, as well as a port of its Indiana Jones gameThe Outer Worlds 2 is also planned for PS5.
