Monster Hunter World Iceborne’s final update will add black dragon Fatalis

Fifth title update launching in late September

Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s final update will feature the return of legendary elder dragon Fatalis.

The news was announced in a developer diary (below) which covers the black dragon’s history and design, plus other new features included in the update.

The game’s fifth title update will launch on September 30 at 5pm PD / 8pm ET / October 1 at 1am BST.

Fatalis first featured in the original Monster Hunter’s online mode, when it would show up without warning as the focus of an online event.

“But in Monster Hunter: World, we wanted to bring it back in a way that lets players challenge the beast more regularly,” the game’s development teams says.

Fatalis will show up at Castle Schrade, which will house “the Dragonator, cannons, and other elements for hunters to play with”.

Iceborne’s fourth title update launched in July, introducing “fan-favorite” monster Alatreon.

As of June 30, 2020, Monster Hunter World had shipped 16.1 million units—it’s Capcom’s best-selling game of all time— while its Iceborne expansion had shipped 5.8 million units.

VGC’s 5/5 Monster Hunter World Iceborne review labelled the game “an essential upgrade for hunters craving new monsters, challenges, and gear”.
