Monster Hunter Wilds is the fastest selling Capcom game ever
The game has sold over a quarter of Monster Hunter World’s lifetime sales in 3 days

Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Wilds is the fastest-selling Capcom game ever.
The game, which was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on Friday, has sold 8 million units in 3 days, which Capcom says eclipses any previous release from the company.
The previous entry in the series, Monster Hunter World, is currently the best-selling Capcom title ever. As of January, the game has sold 28.1 million copies, meaning that during its opening weekend, Monster Hunter Wilds has managed to clear more than a quarter of Monster Hunter World’s lifetime sales.
In a statement confirming the news, Capcom said: “Following the game’s announcement, Capcom promoted the appeal of Monster Hunter Wilds to a broad audience worldwide, exhibiting the title at global video game events and holding an online open beta test to give many players a chance to try it, while also providing updates on game information via the online events such as Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase.
“As a result of these continuous global initiatives, Monster Hunter Wilds has evoked massive excitement and achieved sales of 8 million units in 3 days, the fastest any game has done so in Capcom’s history. Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”
The new game, Monster Hunter Wilds, has been well received by players and critics, earning scores of 90 (consoles) and 88 (PC) on review aggregation site Metacritic. VGC’s five-star Monster Hunter Wilds review called it “a victory lap for Capcom’s golden age”.
However, the game’s opening weekend has also been plagued with issues. Capcom was forced to scramble to fix an issue that could break story mode progression. Once the update is released, any online sessions will be discontinued and players will need to download it in order to continue playing online, Capcom added.
Performance issues have also been widely reportedly by players, particularly on PC. This hasn’t stopped the game’s momentum, as during the game’s opening weekend, it became only the eighth title in Steam’s history to surpass one million concurrent players. Its peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players is the fifth-highest in Steam history, bettering the likes of Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077 and Dota 2.
One of the key developers responsible for the Monster Hunter series, Ryozo Tsujimoto, is being promoted to oversee all of the company’s development divisions beginning in April.
