According to a summary by Ryokutya2089, the game was praised for its “brilliant design”, which takes the feeling of battling large monsters alongside a partner and incorporates it into an RPG structure.

Its anime cartoon style and cheerful storyline were also commended.

The score is slightly higher than that of the first Monster Hunter Stories, which received 35/40 (9, 9, 9, 8) in Famitsu when it was released on the 3DS in 2016.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is set to release worldwide on July 9.

Billed as “a rich RPG story”, Monster Hunter Stories 2 is the follow-up to 2016’s Nintendo 3DS title, which was also turned into a TV animation series.

Players assume the role of a Monster Rider who befriends iconic creatures from the Monster Hunter series as they embark on adventures together.

Last week Capcom aired a lengthy video presentation in which series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kenji Oguro detailed Wings of Ruin’s post-release content roadmap.

The game’s first post-launch update will introduce the Palamute from Monster Hunter Rise. Four more free updates are then set to arrive by October 2021. These will add new co-op quests and Monsties, which are monsters that players can form bonds with.

A free trial version of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is currently available on the Switch eShop, and players can transfer save data to the full game should they choose to purchase it.
