Modern Warfare trailer shows PS4 exclusive Special Ops Survival mode
Co-op mode only available on Sony’s console until October 2020
Sony has released a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer showcasing the PS4 exclusive Special Ops Survival mode.
Survival is a horde mode which challenges up to four players to fight off waves of increasingly difficult enemies in a variety of situations on one of three multiplayer maps.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Special Ops will include three modes: Operations, Missions and Survival.
The headline mode features a series of interconnected Operations, in which teams of four players are tasked with completing multi-phased objectives tied into the overarching story of Modern Warfare. Complementing Operations are “extremely replayable” Missions, which support 1-4 players.
While Operations and Missions will be “available across all platforms at launch and through the post launch Seasons”, Special Ops Survival mode is exclusive to PS4 until October 2020, when it’s expected to be released for Xbox One and PC.
In response to fan frustration over the PS4 exclusive Survival mode, Infinity Ward narrative director Taylor Kurosaki recently claimed it represents only a “sliver” of the wider Spec Ops offering.
“Survival is 1% of the game,” he said on Twitter. “The other 99% is simultaneous day and date across all platforms. I’d rather have everyone playing 99% of the content at the same time than 100% of the content some time later.”
Publisher Activision recently revealed that “most” Call of Duty Modern Warfare gameplay DLC will launch simultaneously for all platforms, including new multiplayer maps, modes and Spec Ops missions.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare street date has been broken in the US ahead of the game’s official release on October 25. The title’s available to pre-order from Battle.net, Amazon, Best Buy, ShopTo and Game, among other retailers.
Several Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PS4 hardware bundles are also set to launch alongside the game.
