Modern Warfare tops Black Ops 4 launch to dethrone FIFA on UK chart
WWE 2K20, The Outer Worlds and MediEvil also make top five debuts
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sold 39% more physical copies in its launch week than last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
The game’s launch week sales (62% on PS4 and 38% on Xbox One) weren’t as strong as 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII, although Modern Warfare closes the gap on the older title when digital sales are also accounted for, according to GamesIndustry.biz.
Activision’s shooter, which VGC called the freshest CoD in years in our Modern Warfare review, knocked FIFA 20 off the top of the UK software chart for the first time since EA’s football game released in late September.
Despite a bug-ridden launch, WWE 2K20 debuted at No.3 on the chart, although its launch week sales were reportedly down 31% compared to last year’s series entry.
Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds entered the chart at No.4, while fellow new entry MediEvil rounded off the top five. VGC’s The Outer Worlds review said the game “only reveals much of its cleverness over time”, while our MediEvil review said the PS4 exclusive “fails to modernise a cult favourite”.
The UKIE/GfK UK chart only covers physical sales.
