Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward establishes new Spanish team
It will work alongside Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile developer Digital Legends in Barcelona
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward has established a new team in Spain.
Working alongside Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile developer Digital Legends in the studio’s Barcelona headquarters, the new team will be led by Riccard Linde, Infinity Ward’s director of art and technology.
“We’re building this new team, which will tap into the incredible talent here in Spain, to focus exclusively on creating industry leading, next-gen quality art for the franchise,” he said.
Fellow Infinity Ward veteran, director of production Peter McCabe, will also serve in a leadership role with the new team.
Infinity Ward was founded in 2002 and is the original studio behind the Call of Duty series. Headquartered in California, it also has offices in Poland, Mexico and Austin, Texas.
Digital Legends has doubled in headcount since being acquired by Activision in 2021, according to the publisher. It’s working on the upcoming Warzone Mobile alongside fellow Activision studios Solid State, Beenox and Activision Shanghai.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work alongside this new team, but also look forward to the cross-pollination of creative ideas and leading-edge asset creation with our friends at Infinity Ward,” said Digital Legends studio head Xavier Carrillo-Costa.
Activision confirmed in 2021 that all its core studios were working on Call of Duty, alongside other projects.
The publisher is planning to release “the next full annual premium release” in the Call of Duty series, as well as Warzone Mobile, later this year.
The next mainline series entry will reportedly be a continuation of last year’s Modern Warfare 2, developed by Sledgehammer Games.
