Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 4 Reloaded adds The Boys Operators
The mid-season update launches this week
Activision has detailed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 4 Reloaded.
Launching on July 12 at 9am PT 12pm ET / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST, the mid-season update includes a crossover with TV show The Boys, a new multiplayer map and fresh Warzone features.
Players will be able to become Starlight, Homelander or Black Noir from The Boys with new Operator bundles each priced at 2,400 COD Points.
The show’s Temp V serum, which provides users with superpowers for a limited time, is also coming to Call of Duty. Upon consuming it, players will be granted one of four random superpowers (Charge Jump, Electric Shockwave, Laser Vision or Teleport) in their Field Upgrade slot.
On the multiplayer front, Modern Warfare 2 will introduce new core 6v6 map Vondel Waterfront, an adapted area from the larger Warzone map.
“Operators cannot swim underneath the houseboats and need to keep action mostly on ‘land’ — that is, the pontoon homes on the water and the decks connecting this district together,” according to Activision.
“Additionally, several of the buildings are boarded up, and two of the available four traversable buildings have new coats of paint – Red and Blue – that mark the most prominent positions on the map.”
Season 4 Reloaded also includes the finale to the Special Ops Atomgrad narrative with Raid Episode 04.
“The members of Task Force 141 have been captured and imprisoned by Al-Qatala asset Hadir,” Activision said in a PlayStation Blog post. “In this epic conclusion to Atomgrad, it’s up to you and two other Operators to get out and finish what you started.”
Following Warzone map Vondel’s debut with Resurgence mode at the beginning of Season 4, the mid-season update brings the classic Battle Royale experience to the map with support for up to 72 players.
There’s also a new Gulag set in Vondel castle’s wine cellar and dungeon, while returning features include the Signals Intelligence Contract, the Portable Redeploy Drone, and the Occupation Scan, an in-match event that reveals the locations of all players who fail to go prone or dive underwater in time.
Season 4 Reloaded will also introduce a map rotation system in Resurgence playlists, which will switch between Vondel and Ashika Island after a certain amount of time specified in-game.
Several NBA players were recently given a demo of 2023’s unannounced Call of Duty title.
The next mainline series entry will reportedly be a continuation of last year’s Modern Warfare 2, developed by Sledgehammer Games.
