Modern Warfare 3 could feature all of MW2 2009’s multiplayer maps
Zombies mode also seemingly teased for this year’s Call of Duty game
Fresh details about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 have seemingly emerged ahead of the game’s official reveal on Thursday.
The game may feature remastered versions of all 16 of the multiplayer maps included with Modern Warfare 2 (2009) at launch, plus the return of Zombies mode.
As reported by CharlieIntel and ModerWarzone, Activision is teasing the multiplayer maps and Zombies mode via a mobile phone-based marketing campaign.
If accurate, it means Modern Warfare 3 will include the following multiplayer maps: Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass and Wasteland.
Activision released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered in 2020. It said at the time that the game didn’t include a multiplayer mode because it planned to bring more classic maps to other series entries.
It was also claimed last October that Activision was planning to release all/almost all Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps this year, possibly as DLC for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2.
In February, Bloomberg claimed Activision had originally planned to release a major expansion for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 this year, but that the DLC had morphed into a full game.
Maps and modes from Modern Warfare 2 would be carried over to the new title, the publication’s sources said.
Following a series of leaks, Activision officially announced Modern Warfare 3 last week. It will be released on November 10, 2023, for PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
The publisher plans to reveal the game on August 17 during a Call of Duty: Warzone event starting at 10.30am PT / 1.30pm ET / 6.30pm BST / 7.30 CEST.
Activision recently detailed how players will be able to carry over most of their collected Modern Warfare 2 content to Modern Warfare 3.
