Modern Warfare 2 is already close to topping Vanguard’s lifetime sales in Europe
And for the first time in over a year, Switch didn’t top European hardware sales last month
Modern Warfare 2 is already on the verge of topping the lifetime sales of last year’s series entry, Call of Duty Vanguard, in Europe.
Based on GSD data published on GamesIndustry.biz, Modern Warfare 2 was Europe’s best-selling game last month, despite not being released until October 28.
In its first fortnight it has almost matched Vanguard’s lifetime sales and will surpass them next week, according to GI.biz head Chris Dring.
Modern Warfare 2 is the fastest-selling entry in the long-running series, according to publisher Activision.
It topped $1 billion in sales in 10 days, beating the record previously held by 2012’s Black Ops 2, which took 15 days to reach the milestone.
FIFA 23 was Europe’s second best-selling game last month, while other new entries on the chart included Gotham Knights at No.4, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope at No.5, Victoria 3 at No.9, A Plague Tale: Requiem at No.12, Bayonetta 3 at No.14 and NHL 23 at No.17.
On the hardware front, which doesn’t include data from Germany or the UK, October was the first month since September 2021 that Nintendo Switch was not the best-selling console across Europe.
PS5 was the month’s No.1 console, while third-placed Xbox Series X/S was the only platform to see a year-on-year jump in October, with sales up over 26%.
